Welcome Back to the 2018-2019 School Year!

We’re excited to begin another year of growth and learning at SCS. Below, you’ll find important updates on various school activities, schedules, and upcoming events.

SCS Cross Country (All Grades)

SCS Cross Country
First Practice
  • Date: Tuesday, September 4
  • Time: 2:45 PM
  • Location: Meet the coaches in the chapel
  • Important Details:
  • Wear comfortable clothes and appropriate running shoes.
  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM.
Participation Waiver

Please sign the participation waiver for your athlete to attend off-campus practices (beach road path, beach runs) and participate in races.

Race Schedule

The race schedule is yet to be released. The first race is expected in mid-September, and more information will be shared as soon as the schedule is finalized.

Music Happenings for August 2018

Music Happenings for August 2018
SCS Elementary Music
  • Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade: Students will explore basic rhythms, melodic intervals, and dynamics through improvisation, call-and-response, and reading. They will also begin preparing for the Christmas Program, "Holiday in Bethlehem" by Hager & Bock.
  • 3rd Grade: Students will learn basic ukulele playing techniques, including how to hold the instrument and proper left and right-hand technique.
  • 4th and 5th Grade: Students will learn strumming patterns and the basic chord progression for C.
Junior High Ukulele
  • Grades 6-8 will explore essential music questions, such as:
  • How and why is music central to a culture and a community?
  • What is the difference between rhythm and beat?
  • Students will prepare for upcoming performances:
  • 2018 Saipan Ukulele Festival: October 20, 3-9 PM at the Marianas Business Plaza
  • SCS November Ukulele Concert: October 25, 7-8:30 PM in the SCS Chapel
Fall Semester Test Schedule

Students will receive their test schedules by the end of week 2.

SCS Band Happenings

SCS Band Happenings

Beginning Band

Students are learning about the band program, their instruments, and how to care for them. They will improvise melodies, rhythms, and mini-songs and begin learning simple melodies by ear. By week 3, students will transfer their skills to reading music.

Intermediate Band

Students will mentor Beginning Band members and participate in workshops like "How To Clean Your Instrument" and "My Practicing Routine." They will also begin working on music for the Christmas Concert on December 6 at 6 PM in the SCS Chapel.

Advanced Band

Advanced Band members will work in sectionals, private lessons, and regular rehearsals for the Christmas Concert.

Sectionals and Private Lessons

When: 2:30 - 3:00 PM, Monday-Thursday

  • Monday: New instrument private lessons (as needed)
  • Tuesday (alternating): Brass and woodwind sectional
  • Wednesday: New instrument private lessons (as needed)
  • Thursday: Percussion

Why Sectionals and Private Lessons?

  • Private Lessons: For students beginning a new instrument or needing additional help.
  • Sectionals: For specialized rehearsal of specific sections of the repertoire to ensure equal playing time.

SCS Health Happenings

In Junior High Health, students will explore the topic of “stigma” and its effects on daily life. Each group will begin their 1st-quarter/1st-semester project.

Join the Saipan Community Choir

The Friends of the Arts invites adults and students to join the Saipan Community Choir. No audition required.

  • Start Date: August 23, 6:30 PM
  • Practice: Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM
  • Director: SCS substitute teacher
