Welcome Letter to Parents and Guardians
Dear Parents and Guardians, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2017–18 school year! I look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential in the Global Studies class. To be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school, and a strong home–school partnership will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success, and I will do my very best to carry out my responsibilities. I ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that they follow our school and classroom goals:
Attends school daily and arrives on time,
ready for the day’s learning experience.

Share school experiences with you
so that you are aware of their school life.

Completes all homework assignments
given by teachers.

Informs you if they need additional support
support in any area or subject.

Practices writing and reading skills daily.
School rules are located in the student handbook. You will be able to view our specific classroom rules when you visit the room. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please get in touch with me. You and your child must be fully informed about the standards of appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year.
Description
Classroom Rules and Expectations
- Students should be at their desks, ready to begin class, when the tardy bell rings.
- Students should have all their daily materials (textbooks, notebooks, pens, etc.) with them in class, ready to work. Students will not be allowed to return to their lockers for materials, including any materials other than their daily materials.
- Students should be respectful to all members of the class, teacher, and fellow students alike. Do not talk when others are talking.
- Be knowledgeable of the rules in the student handbook, as students are expected to follow them.
- Have a positive attitude!
- Strive for success!
- Do not hesitate to ask questions if something is not understood. I do not want any student to leave class with unanswered questions. If I don’t know the answer, I will find someone who does.
- Cheating will not be tolerated in any way, shape, form, or fashion.
- Eating: no food, gum, or drinks allowed in class unless given special permission.
- Cell phones: the use of cell phones at school is prohibited. See the student handbook for the rules and regulations regarding cell phone use at school.
- The bell does not dismiss you; I do.
Daily Classroom Procedures
- Enter the room quietly, go to your seat immediately, and have all materials ready.
- Begin each day’s journal writing assignment as soon as the tardy bell rings (if not before).
- Class activities will vary as follows:
- A. Lecture/notes
- B. Group work
- C. Independent classwork
- D. Tests/quizzes
- E. Reading aloud
- Take notes: if we discuss it in class, it is safe to assume the material could and will be fair game for tests.
Consequences
- First: warning
- Second: write-up, and parent will be notified
- Third: sent to the office
